It is our mission to provide high-quality studio space to local community members and visitors alike. We strive to create a welcoming and collaborative environment where all levels of artists can be involved. We believe diversity in age, race, gender, experience and knowledge help to foster a healthy artist community where the exchange of knowledge flows freely. We hope to provide a challenging yet supportive environment for artistic growth primarily utilizing the mediums of ceramics, glass and stone.

Tuesday Evenings, 5:30pm - 8:30pm, September 29 - November 3
Cost: $590 - includes 6 weeks of instruction with open studio access plus one additional week of open studio time to complete projects (7 weeks total), 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings during class session. Additional clay/glaze/firing package available for $100 per bag.
Age: Adults 18 and over only
Description: Discover the art of hand-building through slab, coil, and sculptural techniques that bring your ideas to life. You’ll create at least two expressive works: a dimensional animal tile, where texture and relief tell a story, and a narrative bust, a sculptural portrait inspired by your imagination.
You’ll learn how to shape and hollow out solid clay forms, build up features, and create depth using artistic principles that make your piece come alive. We’ll also dive into surface design techniques- like underglaze wipe-aways, painterly underglaze layering, and highlighting with Cone 6 glazes- to blur the line between two and three-dimensional art.
This class welcomes all levels—come ready to experiment, connect, and see where the clay takes you.

Description: Kiddos will learn the fundamentals of building with ceramic slabs and coils. Students will learn how to make ornaments, figurines, cups and vessels, and more. This class offers children a chance to experience free play with a new creative medium.

Thursday, November 12, 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Cost: $125
Description: Raku firing provides instant gratification for the artist! Glazed ceramic pieces are taken out of the raku kiln, glowing red at around 1850 degrees Fahrenheit. These pieces are immediately placed in a combustible material inside a steel can to produce flashing, crackle effects and rainbow metallic finishes. Each firing takes about 30 minutes or so. The ceramic piece is usually cooled within an hour, showing the highly variable effect. Students will learn glazing methods, safety procedures, and firing techniques. Glaze results can be highly variable and exciting! Students must have bisque-fired work ready to fire and can fire up to 3 pieces during the session, depending on size. This will be a potluck event to fuel our fun with fire! Please bring a dish to pass to celebrate the fun and enjoy the company of other artists.

Age: 6 and up (adults welcome as well)
Description: Participants will work with rolled clay slabs to make fun, hand-made decorated ceramic ornaments. Students can use cookie cutters to cut out shapes or ceramic tools to cut and sculpt unique forms. We will then use a variety of carving and texture tools to imprint the clay surface and underglaze to paint and decorate the ornaments. Each ornament will be prepared with a small hole at the top through which to affix string for hanging. Pieces will be fired and finished with a clear glaze before being returned to students.

Thursday Afternoons, 1:30pm - 4:30pm, October 1 - November 5

Description: This experimental class will involve digging up local wild clay in the Steamboat area and then learning how to process and test the material for use in our studio practice. We will then coil build and/or wheel-throw some vessel forms with the processed clay, burnish the vessel surface and possibly decorate with clay slip. We will finish off the last day of class with an open sagger firing fueled by wood and sawdust to create various surface effects on the finished pieces (depending on fire restrictions). Students will have an additional 3 weeks of open studio time at the end of class to complete projects made with their local clay.
